Join us for the very first guided wine tasting social at the Lighthouse, an evening that travels deep into Eurasia and into ancient stories that are still very much alive.
Tonight, under the guidance of educator Sam Hewiit, we'll treat wine as a medium. Viewed in this way, Georgian wine carries cultural history directly to the senses. Together, we'll explore the mystic world of Georgian wine — tasting, talking, and sharing what we discover when we pair the delight of these wines with learning for an all encompassing experience.
We'll explore:
The birthplace of wine
Wine as the meeting point between gods and humans
Cultural preservation across millennia
How lessons of independence and resistance speak to our world today
The evening opens with an intimate hour of guided tasting in small groups. Then we open it up — a wine-fueled social hour to keep the conversation going.
Educator Sam Hewitt will guide us through the history, myth, and mysticism surrounding this remarkable culture and Natural wine purveyors Jenny & Francois will provide us with various Georgian bottles for us to delight in.
As the Venetian ambassador Contarini wrote in the late Middle Ages: "Georgians consider the abundance of wine to be the best marker of hospitality."
